For children and young people growing up in the 21st century, the fast pace of technological change, ease of access to information, and the insecurities created by global events present many challenges. As schools seek to ‘futureproof’ their learners, the importance of equipping them with critical thinking skills is recognised as fundamental to their capacity to not just survive but to thrive. This online course aims to explore the nature of critical thinking skills and provides practical ideas for how a range of metacognitive tools may be utilised in the classroom to build mastery of these skills.
Key Stage 2 teachers in primary schools and any secondary school teachers who are interested in extending their appreciation of critical thinking skills and of exploring how a metacognitive tools and strategies can be used to support the development of their students’ critical thinking skills.
The training consists of two x two-hour online modules, facilitated using Google-Meet. It will be facilitated by an experienced TM consultant and there will be opportunity to network with teachers from different schools. The format will include a combination of presentation, practical activities and opportunity for sharing practice and for discussion and reflection.
N.B. As participants will be expected to engage in discussion during the online sessions, access to a device with working microphone and camera is essential.
Participants will receive a TM certificate on completion of the course.
